“The World on Time”? Not according to FedEx

I originally posted this at my old blog on January 19, 2009. Since setting up MrAnderson.info, I decided to take the previous blog offline… I feel that this post should make a reappearance here. Reposted in it’s entirety.

According to Answers.com’s page about FedEx one of FedEx’s current slogans is “The World on Time”.

However, FedEx Home had some difficulty delivering my package “on time”. I have to assume it was the driver that reported to the FedEx tracking system that there was a “local weather delay” and that “delivery [was] attempted”.

~ * ~ * ~

What?

There were no local weather issues in my area. Unless you call normal winter weather chilliness for Northern Illinois a factor for “local weather delay” then there wasn’t any.

I want to know the real reason for the delay instead of the generic “local weather delay” for which I associate blizzards, floods, tornadoes… you know: serious weather some would label as “acts of God”. Heck, it didn’t even SNOW!

“Delivery attempted”?

Okay here is a new one. Is “delivery attempted” justified if the package was loaded onto the delivery vehicle, but never actually attempted the delivery to the designated address? See the thing is, I was home, and the delivery was NOT “attempted”. No knock, no door bell, no door slip saying “we missed you”… just a bold face lie from FedEx as to why they did not deliver.

Since FedEx didn’t deliver, and because this particular branch of FedEx “Home” only delivers on Tuesday through Saturday, I’m now required to wait an extra day until Tuesday * for my package. That is if they really do “attempt” to deliver. If they don’t deliver on Tuesday rest assured that I will be calling them up yet AGAIN, to complain and demand that I be able to pick it up at the depot!

* Edit: I originally write “one” day from the standpoint of when I wrote the post, but the delay caused it to be delayed from Saturday to Tuesday.

Boiling Blood!

What really boils my blood is that “details” / excuse doesn’t fit. There were no weather problems, and FedEx didn’t come knocking at my door.

I’ve called FedEx two times now, once on Saturday when the shit hit the fan, and again this morning hoping that I could do the driver a favor and pick it up myself at their hub.

The first rep was kind enough to attempt to call the hub… (Although I have no proof that he actually attempted to call; for all I know he could have just put me on hold waited a minute and come back and lie to me. Oh another lie? I wouldn’t put it past them.)

The second rep just said that they are closed. She didn’t even attempt to call! I’m sure someone is there, just not delivering.

“I won’t buy from you, if you only ship via FedEx” 1

This morning I called the company that shipped the package via “FedEx Home”. First I applauded them for offering such expedited shipping (at no cost to me), I wasn’t even expecting a Saturday delivery. The praise however stopped there. I then explained what happened and asked them: “If I’m ever to purchase a product from you in the future, how do I ensure that I will be receiving my package via UPS?”

In closing…

I’ve heard that the average person tells about 26 of their friends about bad situations with companies/products/services/etc.

Here’s a wake-up call for FedEx: I’m way above average. I’ll be spreading the word about this debacle like butter on toast!

1: Damn you Apple for only shipping FedEx. You are the only exception, even though I make it under duress. Thank goodness that Amazon is strictly UPS!

UPS FTW!

Miscellaneous thoughts about FedEx…

“More like moving backward.”

A while back I saw a television program about company logos, which it featured FedEx. They said that if you look closely at the FedEx logo, there is an “arrow” made between the “E” and the “x”. They couldn’t find a font that made that “arrow” so they had their designer make it… To paraphrase the gentleman who was talking about the logo, it was to symbolize that they were “moving forward”.

Ironically the arrow always points towards the back end of the delivery vehicles…

Also, Epinions.com has a section for FedEx, and looking at the star ratings it doesn’t look good.
